Known for its commitment to natural ingredients, sustainable practices, and community wellness, MoringaTang is redefining how consumers approach daily health. Under the leadership of CEO James Brady, the company continues to expand its reach and impact—offering a product line that blends cultural roots with modern wellness demands. In this interview, we explore the story behind MoringaTang, its growth journey, and its mission to bring accessible, nutrient-rich solutions to health-conscious consumers.

RCBCC: To start, could you share a bit about your background and what led you to where you are today?

JB: "I was born and raised up in a small town in Dothan Ala. My father was a Barber and his dad was a Farmer. On many occasions my grandfather would show up in the early hours of the morning and take all six of the boys up to country to help out on the farm without any compensation. He had somehow acquired over 200 acres of land with a 5th grade education in Jim Crow racist Alabama. My family lived in the projects and across the street were well over 45 various black businesses, from Barbershops, Taxi stand, Cleaners, Restaurants, Insurance agents, Funeral Homes, Hotels, Night Clubs, and street hustlers, so I was leaning into my environment with the idea someday I would become a business owner myself.

As a young man I sold Grit Newspapers while in high school before I was drafted into the Army in 1971, and after graduating high school in LA, I served two years in Germany. After returning home I knew I could not work in a Corporate environment, so I leaned into getting business education over the next 20 years, at Anderson School of Business LA,, The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, then became Vice Chairman of the State Black Chamber of Commerce (1998) under the leadership of Mr. Aubrey Stone. I then Joined the Human Right Commission advisory board in San Francisco, then became State Chair for the Tuck School of Businesses for 7 years where I helped over 26 other Black Businesses to obtain Scholarships to attend Tucks minority business program. In 1989 I met and married my lovely wife and 3 years later started our Telecommunication Firm (Telecon L.T.D) which became very successful in SF, as the first Black firm certified as experts in Telecommunication and featured in Black Enterprise Magazine in 1996 as leaders in Telecommunications. I used my network and found another opportunity in 1998 to bid as a prime contractor for Information Technology and was successful under a new business named Cobra Solutions, who went on to become 1 of 5 vendors to provide the entire city with hardware, software and peripherals services to 60 different department.

We grew rapidly under Mayor Willie Brown as we approached Y2K in 2000! Fast Forward to 2022, I visited Ghana after getting hosted by Dr. Newton, a world leader in Moringa who allowed me to lecture on Urban Agriculture in the 21st Century to his students on their first day back to school. Two days later I gathered some students and took a picture holding the Moringatang poster, then launched the business from the campus Kwame N. University in Kumasi, Ghana. It is now 2025' and my mission is focused on Black Culture and nutritious foods that will maintain our legacy over the next 100 years. I have over 20 school gardens in Sacramento School District and built the first off grid greenhouse for the Boys and Girls Club in 2017. Currently, I am Vice Chair of Omnigro.org based in Kuaia Hawaii, with a current pilot program that grows organic foods for the local food bank. This past month we have donated over 450 lbs of Bok Choy, Watermelons, Cucumbers, Squash, Peas, and Strawberries. This came about after we were awarded in (2023) a USDA Innovation grant of $247K that finally solves the problem with food security in the Urban Core. My journey has allowed me to give back to the community and still maintain my birthplace legacy. "

RCBCC: What inspired you to launch MoringaTang and enter the wellness industry?

JB:"My grandparents and other members of my Wakanda community influenced me early on in life and my wife continues to inspire and contribute to my business growth as a senior citizen. From Telecommunication, Urban Farming, MoringaTang, Information Technology, Small Business Score Counselor, and understanding how business is done at local and the State level. The Regional Cal Black Chamber has always been a Chamber to idolize and follow in the State of California."

RCBCC: Early on, what was one of the biggest challenges you encountered, and how did you navigate through it?

JB:"I had many challenges early on, not having a large network, or capital to get started, could not qualify for a loan although we had several successful business models. Getting sued by my former attorney from the City of SF for being too successful. I countersued the city and my former attorney for conflict of interest and won at the court of appeals, then onto the Superior Courts, where we prevailed again and then 2 years later won at California State Supreme Court for conflict of interest. Finally in 2012 received at court date after ten years. As California Black Men and Women Business Owners, we must always be prepared for the ultimate surprises along our collective journeys in business, but never, ever, let the opposition prevailed and destroy your integrity."

RCBCC: Can you describe the key products or services that MoringaTang offers?

JB: "We have several products that are produced from the miracle tree, to include Moringa Toothpaste, Moringa, Boa Bob oils, Moringa Tea, Shae Butter with Moringa oils for skin care. "

RCBCC: Who would you say is your primary audience or customer base?

LS: "Our customers are from all over the country, who have acclimated to the various benefits of the miracle tree, families, friends and Tuskegee University who conducted some Moringatang research "

RCBCC: What sets MoringaTang apart within the wellness industry and in your local community?

JB: "Our business model is unique in that I don't focus on sales but more on educational outcomes for users. For example, Moringa is an Adaptogen, therefore long-term use of moringa, it becomes part of your cell structure that wards off infectious diseases such as Cancer and high blood pressure."

RCBCC: How has your business engaged with or contributed to our communities or beyond?

JB: "My goal with Moringatang is maintaining all Black business owners' health so they can be successful. We participate in various community events, I provide Moringa posters all over the country to encourage Black people in particular to grow their own Pharmacy."

RCBCC: From your perspective, what role do small, minority, and women-owned businesses play in driving economic development and empowerment?

JB: "Black Businesses all over America stands at forefront of economic prosperity, because we have broken all the barriers over the years, after being denied capital, access to strategic partnerships and contracting opportunities because of our race. Economic development and minority contracting go hand in hand building a lasting legacy. Reggie Lewis famously asked the question "Why should white Boys have all the Fun?" So have fun as you grow for what you Know!

RCBCC: How do you stay connected with — or actively support — other local entrepreneurs, especially those from underserved or underrepresented communities?

JB: "I still coach many small business owners all over the country on how to start a successful enterprise, maintaining success once cash starts to flow into their operations. I always advise them to hire and attorney, because the inevitable will happen once you start to become successful in America."

RCBCC: Can you share how you first got involved with the Regional Cal Black Chamber of Commerce – SFV?

JB: "I was once the Chairman for State of California Black Chamber of Commerce and the Regional was a member of the board or directors, hence SFV has always been the best advocate for small businesses in Southern California. This Silver Anniversary is another significant milestone that should be appreciate by all Black Businessmen and Women around the globe."

RCBCC: What has your experience with the RCBCC Chamber meant for you personally or professionally? How has it helped shape your journey?

JB: "I sincerely admire Madam Townsend ability to bring the Small Black Business Community together on all levels, whether you're a film maker, or undertaker, or a politician, she and staff simply connect the dots like no other Chamber in the country. It does not matter if you're seeking state contracts with Department of General Services, or city contract with all regional cities in Southern Ca. I have received Recognition from various State and City agencies, along with Congressional Recognition for my Moringatang Brand, and recognition from Mayor Bass, just to name a few."

RCBCC: What advice would you offer to new or aspiring members of the RCBCC Chamber SFV or entrepreneurs in general?

JB: "Join the Chamber and benefit from the outstanding services that are always in the spotlight. Being a small business advocate has its challenges but, failure is not an option once you decide to become your own boss. Support the RBC and stay vigilant, because the exposure you will receive will grow beyond your membership fees. Just really, really, take a deep breath and appreciate the value your membership with RCBCC.

RCBCC: Looking ahead, what are your goals for MoringaTang’s growth and your own professional development?

JB: "My future goal is to get young people more involved in Urban Agriculture, for equitable outcomes, and I have designed an Urban Ag Academy which will teach the next generation how to become successful after taking an 8-week course in Controlled Environmental Agriculture. My goal is to partner with the 100 Black Men of America in the Bay Area who are one of 110 Chapters around the country that provides scholarships and mentorship around the nation. As a former board member in the Bay Area, it will allow me to give back well into the future."

RCBCC: Are there any upcoming projects, initiatives, or events that you’re particularly excited to share?

JB: "I'm very excited about Omnigro.net. This innovative gardening system will generate excitement and solves a huge problem with food security in America. If the Mexican population are no longer able to harvest foods grown by large farmers in California, we may not have vegetables in the supermarkets this Thanksgiving. This innovation will also create a whole new generation of equitable Urban Farmers that is much needed today.

At OmniGro.net we have innovated a new way for all people to grow their own foods or superfoods in a very small space to include patio's, decks, rooftops and parking lot. The next generation can now have a very profitable Urban Ag business that has a strong balance sheet and can be operated off grid, while using an iPhone to control the business model."

RCBCC: What message would you like to share with the next generation of small business leaders?

JB: "Be forever vigilant in pursuit of your dream, get educated at Tuck School of Business, or the Anderson School of Business, so to understand how to put a premium on the space you operate in, elevate to where your competition comes to you seeking advice or partnerships."

RCBCC: Do you have any final words of encouragement or insights you’d like to leave with our readers?

JB: "We are in a strange business world today, protect your business model, CHAT GPT can also ruin your success if your assets get into the world of Hacking."

RCBCC: Lastly, how can people best connect with you and support MoringaTang’s mission?

JB: "My contact is James Brady 415-225-2932. Websites to visit are Con10u2farm.com, Moringatang.com and Omnigro.net. You can also connect with us via Facebook and LinkedIn"
